Anyone here worked / working in the middle east ?
Im a mech project engineer and have been working as a contractor in the water industry.
Got finished a few weeks ago and theres very little out there at the moment.
From a bit of internet trawling ther appears to be a few prospects abroad but its not something I've considered before.
Anyone have any thoughts or experiences to share ?

Thanks in advance.

There's quite a few folks on here live / have lived and work in the middle east chap.

It's a very varied place though, anywhere specific in mind?

I couldn't comment from direct personal experience, but a few mates & acquaintances have done it. Notably, it really depends where you are in terms of family commitments (and other ties) to the UK. One chap I know went out there for a superb role that paid a fortune but he missed his wife & family too much so he ended up coming back. On the flip side, a couple of mates who have next to no ties in the UK went there and seemingly have no intention of coming back.

Just something to consider.

Done many years in the mid-east covering Saudi, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Oman. The money is generally good, the weather generally hot, the living conditions generally variable, the lager is always cold.

What specifically do you want to know? smile

Just the sort of stuff you said but perhaps with a bit more detail smile

Seriously though, any pointers for someone who hasn't been out there before.
The family stuff we can deal with but any practical info - places to avoid, whats life like outside of work etc ?

Mate of mine did a prossie up the arse, bareback over there (Dubai)...

On a serious note, he was paid well for his area of work which was within construction. The only downside he expressed was the lack of things to do on his time off (apart from the above activity).

Not knowing many people from outside work etc left him with not much to do. All in all the pros must have outweighed the cons though as he is looking for another job out there now.
