Anyone here in the oil/gas design industry?

I've decided I'd like to explore this industry after around 5 years in the aero industry, on the stressing side of things.

I'd be really grateful if anyone out there can recommend any text books/agencies/companies that could help out!

Many thanks!

Hi Sam - just thought I'd post to make sure I didn't miss out!

I'm an aerostructures design engineer ( What's called a stress engineer - I do the calcs - designers do the drawings) with a degree in aerospace engineering.

Cheers

OK I work in oil and gas, first thing I’d say is it’s hard to change industry and location, So you need to find an oil and gas company in your area. You won’t get a job as a stress engineer on top money in the middle east as your first job.
Look at a few web sites. Expat engineer, oil and gas careers, world wide worker. They will give you the name of the agencies active in the business.
So assuming there is a stress engineers job, you need to emphases in your CV the areas that are in common between the Areo industry and O and G, e.g. are there common codes and standards? If so highlight in your CV that you have worked to O and G codes or similar.
Then maybe look at places people don’t want to work, Shanklin, Sudan, Nigeria, they can be OK if you are single and live in a camp, but not interesting to old guys who want to take their wife and kids.

To further what was said above, most of the lower/middle positions in Engineering/O&G in the Middle East seem to be filled by TCNs, with only the top level taken by Ex-pats.

So, try and get some UK experience and then think about making the move.

Hi i work in an oil and gas related business, on industrial gas turbines and I've met quite a few ex aero guys who swapped over. I'm assuming your experience in aero is related to the engines of course, although this would not be a limiting factor. If this is the case siemens, wood group, rolls royce, GE and Alstom may have positions that would be able to utilise your experience. As mentioned by previous posters oilcareers, oil and gas job search etc would provide a useful insite.

Cheers

Try Trelleborg Offshore.

I've just been made redundant as have 100's around the world. Maybe you'll get my old job under a different job title ?

I'm pinning my hopes on contract jobs in the Attack Industry.

Thanks chaps - Mr POD, what did you do?

mattt I'm in The swindon area, and am going to look local first thanks!

I don't have turbine experience, all my experience is in static structures, which is why I thought pipes etc might be a good place to start.

cheers!

Wind turbines are having massive growth at the min, especially offshore. Some big money out there at the min for qualified people. As you stated your experiance is in structures so could fit the bill.
