I was made redundant from my last job, picked up the first job that came my way. Its quite different to what i was doing previously.

I have been at my present job less then 2 months. Last week my line manager called me to a meeting and presented me with a list of things I have done wrong and saying i made mistakes and generally he is not happy.

The thing is its a change in jobs for me, its not something i have done before and i made this clear in the interview. he said i have the skills needed to do the job and he will teach me the stuff i dont know.

I think he has been most unfair with his approach, esp to list out my mistakes. He talks in a funny way to me at times (speaks in such a way where he makes you feel stupid) and speaks in such a way the whole office hears him.

what would you do in my shoes?

I don't know, but I expect you will be instructed on here to :

'grow some balls'
'man up'
'grow up FFS'

etc.

I expect you need to sort this out yourself - schedule a meeting, ask for more detailed analysis of your shortcomings and, more importantly, structured manner in which to improve.

Good luck

Rub chocolate around your mouth and tell him it's poo. I guarantee that this will solve all issues.

Demeaning you in front of your colleagues is unprofessional and bang out of order. Ask for a chat....in private. Ask him to explain his misgivings and what he expects of you. Then kick him in the face

Thanks chaps, I had a meeting today. They (as in him and HR) are talking it through seeing what to do about the matter.

Thanks again. Sometimes things dont work out - best to take positive points from them. Will keep you posted!

What made you resign... just a few mistakes?

Got to be something else in that?

if that is your attitude its going to be hard to get jobs if you simple quit and run away from issues.

Dupont666, oh it was defo more then that. i had a meeting with the HR dept and my manager today - I have been at Hammerson Plc less then 2 months, prob 6-7 weeks. I am an accountant by trade, i took a role of an analyst. Something which i could do as i have the right skill set but i lack the technical knowledge.

Anyway, my line manager over the duration of my stay at the company had been noting things down that i was doing wrong. As you know, any new job people will get things wrong esp when you change field! Let me give you an example of what he said;

- Consolidating the whole group's numbers rather then one set of numbers [makes no impact on the total numbers]
- Did not include subtotals on my rec's [no but i had totals which reconciled to the systems numbers]

It was all petty stuff. Things which i could sort out easily on my next attempt. He was so uptight about it - I really could not see how it would work out long-term. I said what i had to keep the job but they thought that i would not be able to cope. I had to remind them of my previous roles and that they were far more demanding. They had nothing to say at that point. I think in honesty it was a lack of management skill more then anything else on his part and lack of questioning on my part.

It worked out that either i resign or go through the HR procedure and managed out of the business.. so i resigned. had no choice really.

I was not planning to stay there long anyway.. it was a means to an end. Was looking at fund accounting jobs...

I have called a local Rescue and Shelter for cats in my area. I plan to help out there for a while until i get a job up in london again!

Nope still dont get it....

In this recession you resigned from a job without securing a new one first?

I would have stuck with it until a new one was secured and just take what (your now ex) boss said and ignore him.

your attitude seems very weird for someone who has been through the JSA route once.

My friend and wife are saying they shafted me and did not deal with me properly...

my mate is urging me to seek legal advice as they forced me out and did not observe the correct procedures... i dont like the legal side of things really. i think its always a poor way to do things?
