Just been offered a new role.. and have been reviewing the offer pack.
Now this move is not for a money gain but to get me remotivated as totally bored, getting de-skilled in my current role - that said on a good package, and on paper the new co seem to have pretty much matched it
One thing that does stick out though is only 5 days sick pay a year... my current job is 6 months.. and pretty sure previous ones have been similar.. is this the norm?? Bearing in mind this is a pretty senior role. Now in my whole career so far I can only think of one time I've had more the 5 days in a year out, but still...
On the flip side anyone have any idea what it would cost me to get insurance to cover such an eventuality? May have to factor the cost of this into the on-going negotiations.... that along with the car allowance - which is good - but is 'under review'....

It's your call if you want to use it as a negotiation tool, it could be viewed pretty negatively though.
That would be my thought as well. Negotiate on the car, the pension, the salary or pretty much anything other than sick pay!My immediate reaction if someone started negotiating over sick pay would be "OK, so you're clearly planning on taking a lot of sick leave. Why would I want to employ you again?"
Not negotiating on sick pay per se, but want to be able to provie a like for like cover for myself/family if I'm taken sick, therefore looking to negotiate on pay to cover cost of me taking insurance.. looking around these things aren't cheap - and have always stated with the role that I'd be looking for a like for like package, but knowing that different companies slice and dice their benefits different ways.
Anyway have a good agent handling it (I know he's being paid for by the company recuriting eventually but have used him before) so will let him word/negotiate as applicable... it was just that this part of the offer was so different to anything I'd ever had before was querying if it was the 'norm' now-a-days

If you can demonstrate your sick record up to now is exemplary neither party should have anything to lose in extending it to six months.
If, however you have a history of illness after the hols, after sunny summer weekends (or any other weekend) on days when Man U are playing, during the fishing season or on days when your best mate is also ill....forget it!!
