Relocation of job question
Discussion
Not me, a friend.
His company has several depots throughout the country and he has been informed that his position is being transferred to another area.
Is there a set period of time that his company needs to give him before the actual move? By that I mean do they have to give him say 4 weeks notice before he has to relocate?
He was told a few weeks ago that he would need to relocate, but today they told him that the relocation has to have been completed by the end of this week - they have never actually given him a date before now.
He has no problem with relocating but feels that less than a weeks notice is cutting it a bit fine and if they had given him a date a while ago instead of 'soon, but we don't know when' then he wouldn't have a problem with it.
He has a company handbook which he has read and this is not covered within it.
Many thanks.

I think a minimum of week's notice for each full year that he's worked there, but check the acas website to be sure.
But there is usually a consultation period, considering a company will know something as important as relocating for a significant time.
There should also be other info on the website about what he should expect the company to contribute towards if he does move - for example removal costs.
If I wasn't so knackered i'd have a look myself
