feeling a bit guilty
Discussion
I started the current job I am in in May this year - which I was very grateful for given the state of things. However I am underpaid the market rate by about 4/5k pa - not a big deal and I am grateful to have a job at all given the state of things.
However I've now been offered another position doing something equally as interesting which looks great - 40k, final sal pension, flexitime etc. Overall the package is about 12k pa more than I'm on at the moment.
I feel guilty though - should I? My current firm rely on me quite a bit but I've only been there a few months.
Its a unique chance though. I will probably take it, but I'm a bit worried about how work are going to react...

I am certainly no expert in the world of work.. But when I had a tough similar decision to make, I thought to myself, you only get one life, its too short to to not further yourself, afterall, I am sure given the market they will fill your job fairly quickly, and forget about it all soon enough

reminds me of some contract work on finding the boss's salary, his boss's salary and everyone else -copied all on a badly written spreadsheet
average was 23k, except for the solitary girl who was on 17k, loud mouth in the office let slip that only a muppet would work in the job for less than 20k, q a lot of shouting and door slamming....
always leave doors open, it never hurts

The bottom line is that your current employer would get rid of you if they had to, you honestly have to look out for Number 1 in Business - it is just that, Business.
Now, you don't have to burn your bridges, you can try and negotiate between your new job and current one (let's just assume you are going to get it!) about a longer notice period to enable you to train up your replacement and not leave your current employer in the lurch etc.
