I was made redundant two months ago with 4 months pay, I can stretch this to last 7 months if I'm frugal. My work is pretty specialist and I live in East Anglia so it isn't the centre of the universe for employment. My dilemma is ...do I take any old job (the average is £18-£20k PA for menial work) and find I'm unable to dedicate time to job searching and attending interviews or do I hang in there for a position in my line of work. I wouldn't mind relocating but my O/H is a lawyer and isn't able to move really and I'm not really keen on the thought of being away from home for long periods of time. In the meantime the Cars are immaculate, garden, shed and garage are now organised and tidy but being at home is driving me bonkers. Thoughts peeps?

Also in EA so I know what you mean about job availability.

Can you not just apply for any job so at least any potential employer sees that you are wanting to work and not just bum about. Once you have secured that employment you can still apply for others.

Also if you get job in a sector youre not used to it may open other opportunities but as a bare minimum it will help you retain and hopefully expand on your business knowledge

Do you have a skill set and sufficient contacts to set up on your own?

Hmm thought about consultancy but TBH I'm at a loss how to go about it. I am awaiting two temp contracts but although they would provide 6 months of work they are both quite a distance from home, although if Im succesful I will take one.
