I'm considering my options at the moment, and thought it would be worth throwing this out to the wider world to see what sort of ideas, if any, people come up with.

I'm 31 years old, graduated a BSc Economics degree a few years ago, and went into recruitment. I have had a few jobs since then, mostly in sales or recruitment. I have moved around a lot because I have been travelling, and have parted on good terms with all my employersm but I realise this doesn't always look good on a sales CV. I do actually enjoy sales, especially in recruitment, and I can't complain at the money.

Earlier this year I decided to try something different, so I have been teaching English as a foreign language in Thailand since May. Love living in Thailand, and I can handle the jobm but to be honest I find it a bit boring. Other teachers think I'm barmy saying that teaching is boring and unrewarding compared to recruitment consultancy, but there ya go. And the money is crap. The nice thing is that it allows me to live in a small town in rural Thailand, and work 4 month stints at a time, then give me 6 weeks to spend my meagre earnings (which are actually plenty to have a nice time in SE Asia.)

So, here's my dilema, or trilema perhaps. I like the work and the money in recruitment, and possibly other sales roles, but they usually force you to live in bigger cities and spend 48 weeks a year in an office. I like the freedom of teaching, living where I like, and working term to term but the job is dull and the money is not enough.

It seems to suggest some sort of contracting or temp work, which would let me clear off with a pocket full of money after 6 months, but sales roles seem invariably to demand a lifelong commitment, and I can't think that I have any other really saleable skills that someone would be interested in hiring on a contract basis. If I go and sign up with Hays for 6 months temping in England I'd be lucky to save up a plane fare.

So what would you suggest? Stick with the teaching and be poor? Grow up and get a proper job while I still can? Or something else?

I did think of this quite seriously. Actually it was part of my motivation for going into teaching int he first place. It's a market which is served by millions of recruiters, very badly, but on the whole very cheaply.
