BDM to setup a new department

I recently setup a small company dealing with perms & temps in the hospitality industry.

I've advertised for a BDM to setup a new department in IT. As I have no experience in this sector i was wondering if anybody knew what sort of starting salary and commission basis a manager should be on?

Also how long would it reasonably take before new clients could be billed?

As you talk about perms and temps, then I assume you are in recruitment. If so, this is probably the last place you want to ask that question judging by the amount of recruiter bashing that goes on at PH.

Your question is also actually impossible to answer without further information.

What part / level of IT? perm / contract? What location?

I was in IT Recruitment 10 years ago and it was then considered the place to be within the recruitment industry. Yes things will have changed since then, but I can't see any decent IT recruiter joining a hospitality temp business (don't be offended, just telling you how I see it)

If you do want to attract someone decent, especially at management level, then I suggest you will have to offer equity or a well above market rate as a salary / commission scheme. Bear in mind that these guys earn six figures.

Why would someone good join an unknown brand (in IT) and take that level of risk on their career without a big potential upside?
