Just thought I'd throw this one out to the PH hive mind,

I have been offered a job in the Netherlands, I currently work in a tax free (offshore) industry and would like to know if I would be liable for income tax in Holland if I took the job. It will be land based on an approx. 18 month contract.

Obviously a massive pay cut due to income tax is a big deciding factor for me.

Den Haag? No income tax there, to my knowledge.

Otherwise I can't see you avoiding it.

Speak to euroboy.

He detailed what tax he has to pay, it works out pretty cheap.. Although not exempt.

I've been out here since July.

Income tax is a pain, but the pay is better for me than back in the UK.

On an income of around £100k, the total tax payable will be around 51%, however if the Dutch taxman decides that you have sufficiently rare skills to be of benefit, and that such skills couln't easily be found by employing a native then you'll get a discount on that, known as a 30% ruling which reduces the tax take to about 35%, leaving you with a retention of 65%.

It is normal for contractors to be paid by a Dutch payroll agent familiar with dealing with the Dutch tax system and they will tax you at source. They will also charge you a management fee for doing this. They will also retain 8.5% of your salary which they then give back to you when you have a holiday, this is part of Dutch law and there is no way round it.

They will pay you sick pay at full rate, after your first two days sick. You will need health insurance, I'm paying about £60 a month.

Let me know if you need any more info and I'll find out what I can.

Where in the Netherlands are you moving to?

and because of the "chain law" here, where the taxman can make anyone in the chain pay the tax if not enough has been paid, then no-one is prepared to push the system a little.

Still, could be worse, try working in Sweded.
