I gave my notice a couple of weeks ago and only have 8 days of work left & I think it's going to be the hardest 8 shifts of my life. I know all I need to do is keep my head down, do my job and stay out of trouble (not that I've been in trouble).

When I gave my notice my director was not best pleased. I thought he was going to punch me then after a couple of minutes of talking to him I thought he was going to cry.

Anyway I'm posting this because I think my job is going to be made difficult for me and was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation or if any of you can give me any advice.

Perhaps your director is sorry to see you go and is thinking "oh st, Ozmira is going. Now I'm fked!"??

His words were "you've droped me right in the sh#t, you f##ced me three weeks before Xmas. It was on the tip of my tongue to say you've been fu##ing me for the last 5 months. But I thought against it. Most of the staff are happy for me, it's just a small amount of brown nosers sticking their two cents in. I think it may be simpler just to call in sick.

Why do you think it will be made difficult for the last 8 shifts, but I assume has been ok for the last 2 weeks?

I was once in the exact same position as you. Handed my notice in as the boss was just a nasty bh and I was on minimum wage at the time and it just wasn't worth it. Anyway, I managed to crash into a house on my motorbike and I spent the day in hospital and coulnd't walk for two weeks so didn't have to go in. Job done.

It's never much fun workign notice period, even in a place where they're happy for you to move elsewhere to progress your career.

Just go in each day, put in a reasonable days work and fk off at the end of the day.

I'm currently doing the same thing, going in and putting in a good day's work but without staying late without good reason and cutting my lunch break down to 15 minutes as I was doing before. I am doing what is asked of me in my contract and earning the last few days wage to add to my Christmas pot before starting a new role.

The people I work with are mostly a good bunch and I don't think I'm the only one ready to leave if I'm honest, but at least now I can be honest in my views rather than trying not to let on smile

My director spoke to me today as has told me not to worrie about working my last week and a half. (this is the same bloke that was either going to hit me or cry a couple of weeks ago).

My question now is as I've been told to finish 8 days sooner then expected does that mean he doesn't have to pay me out for those days. I've still got holiday days to either take or be paid out for but I have never been in this situation so I'm unsure as to what I can ask for.

Any help or ideas would be great.

If it is in your contract that you will work so many weeks/days notice, then they will have to pay you for that time, whether they want you in the building or not is up to them.

If they don't want you there (gardening leave!), then you are still employed by them, until the end of your notice period, and therefore cannot (legally) take up your new position earlier, without being in breach of contract.
