Legal Profession - specifically IT

After a rather boring spell in IT, stuck at a career dead-end, I'm considering my options and a career in law has always been of interest.

Are there companies that specialise in "IT Law" and if so, what sort of work do they typically get involved with? Would having a good working experience of many aspects of IT be of any help in this career, or am I best to look at other aspects of the industry ?

I can't see that IT specific knowledge would be that much help (I'm IT not law though). Much day to day stuff would be standard contract law. Of course there is all the Data control/protection stuff but thats really business stuff rather than IT per se

I'd agree, having made a similar career change myself (computing->law) . Your IT experience may help you understand technical aspects of a client's case but that's about it. If you're thinking about litigation then generally you'd need independent expert witness evidence rather than being able to rely on your own knowledge. Having said that you could look into offering your services as an expert witness.

Most stuff that my particular firm does with IT law is around contracts, outsourcing, licensing and IP.

Knowing much from an IT technical perspective doesn't appear to be a pre-requisite.
