Out of work for over 2 years - any ideas?

I used to work as a sports trader till August 2007 when my firm moved offshore and I was made redundant. Since then most other firms have followed and as I am unable to go abroad due to family I am in a bit of a predicament.

I have been making ends meet by trading from home, but am desperate to get a job as being home alone everyday is a lonely/depressing existence. The problem is how do I get into work with no experience or qualifications in 'real world' jobs. I'm even struggling to get interviews for jobs that pay less than half than I was on before.

I am excellent with figures and would be suited to an office number crunching role. I've looked at Admin/Clerical/IT positions but all need previous experience and it's doing my head in.

Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Trade-in the blue motor for a newish diesel Volvo S80 or E Class Merc and get yourself a Private Hire Cab License, put yourself about to local Private Hire Exec firms and sub-contract work from them.

With some varied and sometimes long hours, this should soon put you on about £35000pa and increasing, probably as much net. as you were on before!

Nothing, just want a guaranteed income and a normal job if possible

If he could afford to spend £21k on a car after being out of work for a year, you'd have to assume money isn't much of a concern.

I'd quite like a career change but am unsure of where to start, the hours in sports trading are very unforgiving

Money is ok for now but wouldn't take much longer to clean me out, need work before I have to sell the P&J

OP did you get anywhere? Reason I ask is that I've been playing the last few weeks trading betfair and with no idea what I was doing once I got fanciful ideas of being a bookmaker out of my head and started market making in it as though it was any normal liquid exchange traded market it seems to have been pretty much exactly the same kinds of techniques used (albeit; tbh; somewhat easier...) if you were good at it why not try researching jobs like that?
