Oh for f*cks sake. Had job in the bag now back to square one

I can't believe my freaking luck, after 10 months unemployed i finally thought that i had got somewhere.
Interviewed for a large OEM (non car) manufacturer, design engineer role. Aced the interview, mate offered me a place to live just down the road from the office.
Got informed that it was a definate, no others were being interviewed they wanted me to start ASAP, they just needed to get the money signed off.
So I sit around for 3 weeks, constantly being told that things are in motion and that I'll be offered the job ASAP.
I start to put off other recruiters and turn down and interview in Ireland (I don't like wasting peoples time and money).
Then today I get informed that the company has frozen all new jobs, even though they are losing 2 people they won't let them replace the engineers they are losing.

king hell, I don't know what I need to do to get a job. Even getting an interveiw is a major struggle.
'Crushed' does not sum it up, sorry just had to vent a little.

really sorry to hear that mate, same sort of thing happened to my mum a few years ago where the job was in the bag...we even moved from Luton up to Stoke so she could start the new job only to be told the day before her start date that it was no longer availible...
Keep your head up and remember that the fact you were even offered it means you must have something more than many others out there, something that someone will eventually pick up on.

Sorry to hear that - especially the putting-off of other possible roles.
I assume you've still got contacts in Jaguar? I hear they are ramping up in the new year... there are a few roles filtering through but all rumours suggest an avalanche of positions in January.
Pretty sure there's a position in Whitley for a powertrain PMST leader which I thought you might be going for?

Thanks pal, I didn't know that. All of my contacts have been made redundant as well.I assume you've still got contacts in Jaguar? I hear they are ramping up in the new year... there are a few roles filtering through but all rumours suggest an avalanche of positions in January.

PMST Leader was my job before and I loved it, going back to JLR would be what I want to do most.
Sorry to hear that - the offer shows that you are wanted and hopefeully the next one will come soonest in the New Year.
Anybody who is reading this tale....... never ever put off other potential interviews/offers until you are virtually in the role i.e contracts signed and references okayed. Learnt my lesson 15+ years with the chocolate company in Slough - taught me one of the most important lessons in my career about cliques and also Recruitment C:.:ntsultants.

Bad luck old chap. A similar thing happened to me several years ago. I was lucky in that I got a call from them 2 weeks later saying they had 'found' the money. Felt like I was the pawn inbetween the team who hired me, HR and accounts. Arse =/ elbow.
Hope you get the same luck, or something else comes along soon.
I agree that you have not got the job till you and they have signed on the line, however I have never been able to perform at interviews for 'back-up emergency jobs' - there is no point going to interview for something you hope you don't have to take up, so don't beat yourself up about putting off the other options.
