First my background, just over 15 years working across just about all jobs in the back office, in small and large organisations, to assistant manager level, I have no degree and only average qualifications (given my age i see it as irrelevant how i was 20 years ago but i know employers do not agree!) having been made redundant 2 times, I have just been informed that its going to be 3 times in end of September!
Meanwhile the company is allocating 2k for retraining and courses to assist in the transition, the question is what courses should I be looking at to maximise my next job hunt?
I would like to do a VBA/macro course as I have dabbled in it in the past, self taught, and enjoy doing it, anyone know of a recognised certificate I should be gunning for?
Thinking also of doing a Princes 2 course in project management as I have also been heavily involved in new system implementation in the past and once again enjoyed the process.
Can anyone suggest other courses that would be appropriate to allow me to get out of the back office (into any alternative!), as clearly now its time is up in London, but still something I could realistically do considering I do not have a degree, which seems a prerequisite for just about everything nowadays, even though in most cases it is completely unnecessary !
Any help appreciated, especially if we have any agency types on here who can help.

I'd say the VBA course would be useful, depending on how advanced it goes.

There are industry / role specific courses runn by the SII www.sii.org.uk

Prince 2 is "okay" but to be honest I think you may be better off spending your dough elsewhere.

It may be worth having a look on some job sites for roles that you would like to do (Middle Office / Trader Assistant)? and then seeing what qualifications these roles require.

If you have been in the back office for this period of time, could you not go down the Business Analyst route, working for one of the software vendors of one of the systems you would have used? There are a couple of firms that have the market pretty much sewn up and would probably take on someone that has real-world experience of using their systems. You could look at the ISEB certificate in Business Analysis perhaps.

Not sure which specific direction you want to go in but there's my first thoughts.

That's pretty good of them to tell you this far in advance (8 months) that you are going to be made redundant.

Oh and if all else fails, you could be a software tester ! smile

Did ISI, FAS regs and EDTA....

All paid for by HSBC before I got laid off... used up a pretty penny doing that hehe
