Help with flexible working hours
Discussion
Hi folks, looking for a bit of help filling out a form which my HR dept have given me to apply for flexible working hours.
Me and my sons mum split up and I have him from a friday afternoon when i finish work until a sunday afternoon about dinner time usually.
Currently I work hours starting from between 8am-12pm and do 8 hour shifts. I work 5 out of 7 days.usually ends up a full weekend one weekend off then either a sat or sun the other 2 weekends.
I've worked with this company for just over a year and have really struggled with the shift pattern. sometimes paying most of my wages out to babysitters just so i can get into work.
ideally I'm looking for something closer to a 9-5 monday to friday but have been told i need to fill in an application to HR.
there are 2 questions on the form which I want a bit of advice with. I want to answer them as best I can as i'm only allowed to apply once per 12 months.
"how will this change effect my employer and collegues?"
"I think the effect on my employer and colleagues can be dealt with as follows?"
I could answer them but I'd like to try and put a positive spin on it.
Any ideas??
Cheers

Suggestions:
You will be there more during the core times of business.
Available to more people, colleagues and customers, during the day
Able to attend meetings during core time.
Anytime I'm at work is classed as core time I think tho.....they are open 8 am til midnight but I'll add something in about itYou will be there more during the core times of business.

I assume with the follow on question, they will be expecting a negative response to the first."I think the effect on my employer and colleagues can be dealt with as follows?"
"Negative" answer: The shift patterns of my colleagues may be restricted to accommodate my request.
Justification: Consultation with colleagues may find a preference for more stable shift patterns
"Positive" answer: The reduction in stress for me through better balancing of work/family life could make the working environment a more pleasant place for my colleagues and managers
Justification: A more pleasant working envorpnment could lead to high productivity and staff morale

I think they will look at it in a negative way. ie I'm not available at weekends...which is true but want to include any positive sides to it
