Mate of mine has got the contract for his new job in his hand and just needs to send it back signed, having made a verbal acceptance. He also needs to give his employer notice. He asked me what order he should do it in!

I said give notice first as he has the offer letter and contract so it must be fairly assured that he won't have the rug pulled from under his feet at the last minute....?
