Hi guys,

I'm currently in the (very) lucky position of having been offered a graduate job starting in Oct '10. I have been given all of the paperwork to sign and return, and am pretty happy with the role.

However, I've still got two assesment centres to attend (within the next month, or so) with what could be described as 'better' companies (in terms of benefits, prestige, and location to my home).

Obviously company number 1 are pushing for me to return the contract and finalise things.

What sort of position would I be in if, once signed and returned, I got a position at company 2 or 3 and decided to take that?

I've read through everything and there doesn't seem to be much wrriten about this kind of situation. The role at company number 1 is dependent on me getting a 2:1, so I guess I could just tell them I got a 2:2 (and hope they tell me I'm not wanted anymore).

I know I'm being a bit selfish/spoilt, especially considering the economy at the moment.. But it would be a shame to throw away the possibility of the other 2 jobs.

Any insight/experience would be greatly welcomed!

Harsh as it sounds you should look out for number one and your interests above everything else when it comes to job offers so go for the job that is best for you IMO. A lot could happen between now and October and to be honest the company might not be so loyal to you if their budgets/targets etc change dramatically.

IME always look after yourself, if your sure there is nothing in the contract about dropping out then send it off so you have one job guaranteed. only thing I'd say is once you decide between them tell each company properly that you have received a more attractive offer and you will be taking that. as you never know when other opportunities may arise.

Just tell the other company that you want more time? They should know that most people apply to several companies during the milkround so should be reasonably accommodating.

I would second that. Not been on the recieving end myself but seen and managed the outcome of a brief thought in an Exec Dir mind that we could run.... X% leaner...

Look out for number one but only if you feel comfotable doing so imo.

(oh and they will have back up candidates so you could be making someone elses day)
