Lost my job back in December through a rather devious stitch up job by the executive team of my old company. After a relativly long and painful search, lots of interviews, disapointments etc I have just landed my dream job.

Probably going to have to spend a lot of time in the US again, but hey ho !

Happy Days !

Congrats mate... but December to March is in no way a long time to be looking for a job, coount yourself lucky that you had an incredibly short time unemployed.

Nice I'm looking myself at the moment and also left my last role in December - you beat me to it! Did you get it direct or end up going through an agency... I have a spreadsheet of around 40 that have called me so far and most are fairly hopeless.

I work as an account manager for online companies, and got rang the other day by a girl wanting to put my CV forward 'right away' for a high end executive search company headhunter role, I mean really?

I got the job via a direct approach. Had several recruiters looking out for me, some were better than others but I did get a few good interviews.

My "spaz" recruiter story - Wrote to one recruitment company in Marlow explaining that I was looking for a product management / product marketing role and attached my CV. About a week later got an e-mail saying "This role is more direct marketing - not sure you have the right skill set" ... and that was it ! I replied back asking what they were going on about and that I had just written to them to pass on my details. Got no response back.

Decided it was best not to work with that outfit!

Hang in there, its certainly tough, I hadn't been out of work since I left Uni 15 years ago. I had a the same issue about being over qualified, potential employers would ask why I would be applying for jobs that seemed below my current level.

Eventually got a job through personal contacts who vouched for me and de-risked my perceived over qualification.

Good luck in your search.

I had a classic one today. 2 weeks ago I took a call from a chap who had seen my CV on monster and wanted to pass it onto one of the big companies in my industry. I said that would be good, as they were on my list to apply direct. He said I was very suitable and he'd get back to me but had high hopes.

2 weeks later and I had heard nothing, the agent wasn't taking calls or answering emails. I contacted the HR director directly, asking if they had my CV. Nope, they had never received it but that they are very keen to get me in to see them as my background looks great. Bloody annoying!
