Retraining options

I'm currently a self employed sole trader in a retail business that after many years is slowly going down the pan and I need to get out. The salary I draw is not far off the minimum wage so a job that pays a wage around 18k would be heaven!

To boost my chances of someone taking me on and hopefully land an interesting job I'd like to retrain ideally for 1 year because being age 50 I need to get things moving quickly.

Any pointers to job sectors I should be looking at will be most appreciated. I'm confident I could tackle most things.
