any ideas for where i could look for an apprenticship around the york area for a 14 y.o?

14 is too young.

you can get a young persons apprenticeship which is for 14-16 y.o's

You could try Portakabin, I think they are quite big in york.
Again, not sure about the age thing, thought a National Insurance card was required?

The OP still hasn't said what trade his son wants to go into.

Most car manufacturers run their own apprenticeship schemes and have links on their own websites.
