I need help finding an apprenticeship/entry-level job in offshore drilling, i want to become an offshore roustabout hopefully rising through the ranks but I don't really have any good qualifications and im not sure where to start looking or what to start doing I would appreciate any help in solving my problem, thanks.
If you can, pay yourself through your survival training (google BOSIET) and get an offshore medical. Then start sending out your CV to drilling contractors stating you want to start out as a Roustabout. You'll probably not have a lot of success as a lot of contractors go to the agencies for roustys and end up offering them a job if they are any good... so get registered with all the agencies too.
I wouldn't worry about doing any slinging/rigging, fire team training, heli deck training etc etc as you will get paid through all that once you have a start.
Your biggest problem will be overcoming the reluctance to hire newbies - in an industry obsessed with HSE and target hitting, a new start has by far the biggest likelihood of getting hurt.
That said, the rig market is picking up again and a fair few stacked rigs are going back to work, so not a terrible time to go looking.
If even the agency route doesn't work, consider applying for paint crews or even steward/catering positions. Once you have a few trips offshore behind you, it'll be much easier to swap over.
