applying for jobs via email
Discussion
Hi,
A friend of mine has applied for a few jobs via email, I have advised to either request a read notification or follow the email up with a phone call to make sure the relevant person has the application. Is this a good idea or does it look pushy/too keen? My reasoning is that some companies see incomming mail from say google mail as spam and often the mail ends up in a junk/spam folder never to be seen again.
Thoughts?

I would always state in the email that I will call them later in the day to discuss further. If a recruiter receives 50 CV's of equal strength for one position, he's likely to prefer the chap that's just called him up and added a 'human' element, I'd say.A friend of mine has applied for a few jobs via email, I have advised to either request a read notification or follow the email up with a phone call to make sure the relevant person has the application. Always phone. I've had a couple of occasions where I've applied on-line and heard nothing, only to call the nominated recruiter a couple of days later, have a conversation and have them ask me to send them through my CV. I'm sure the web application process is often used to weed out those who are just chancing it or have no real interest.
I applied for one a couple of weeks back & got an automated response saying I'd hear in 5 working days.
Called today (WD9) as I'd heard nothing & wanted to confirm receipt before Easter.
Pleasant girl told me they'd been overwhelmed with applications and said sorry for not responding. She confirmed my application had been received (and also that I was not on her "with regret" list). so fingers crossed.
