So, Mrs. AJ is due to start her new job next week. We had 2 positive pregnancy tests yesterday (Different times, Different brands) and chances of two false positives are very slim. Given her last period was Febuary, It's fairly safe to say theres going to be a mini petrol head running around at the end of the year.

However, One issue we have is with her starting this new job - She's not going to be there that long and will probably end up on maternity leave before her probation period is up. Going back to her previous employer isn't an option, Even though they haven't replaced her yet, She's still working her notice period and the Office manager wants her to stay - HR has said no.

What rights will she have at the new place, Is it going to be possible for them to push her out prior to going on maternity leave?.

I know its early days yet, She's only at roughly 8 weeks and no one other than a friend of hers (Also pregnant) knows the situation (PH is learning of this before my Parents, Is that a bad thing?) BUT we are going to need to start planning now if we're going to have any chance of getting through it, I'm self employed and my income is up and down all the time.

It is possible to push her out but it would take a brave or stupid person to do it without a good reason. You may also want to look into maternity allowance in case you lady is not eligible for SMP.

Christ. She is not going to be popular with her new employers.

Both Bonsai and edc are pretty spot on. Although I'm not suggesting she isn't honest with her new employer, she will be pretty unpopular if she accounces it straight away.
Bear in mind that to qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay, a woman has to be employed by the same employer continuously for at least 26 weeks into the 15th week before the week the baby is due.

Best not to do anything until she's at least 12 weeks. A lot can happen in that time and it would be a shame to antagonise her new employers until you know she's definitely pregnant and past the dangerous bit.

Yes wait until past the 12 week mark, it took the better half three attempts to get past it.

Not wanting to be negative or anything, but play cards close to the chest, and if all goes well, balls to the job really......
