Fecking Contractors
Discussion
No a f
king happy bunny
Got a contractor off for 11 days, agency have sent a replacement this morning. Got him all set up on the system (no mean f
king feet in an office running mod projects), gave him the kit he would need to do the job (IT support 2nd line work) spent 3 hours running through everything he would need to know, seemed interested/keen/eager to please, get to 11:30ish, asks if I would mind he takes as lunch at 12, as that’s when he normally does. "no problem" says I "just be aware that I need to be in another office 20 miles away by 2pm so I can start my own days work", "no problem, will see you at 1pm" says the custard cock of a contractor.
1pm arrive and passes..."no problem, were not that busy yet" think muggins here.
1:30, "he better be back soon, I’ll give him a ring and a gently reminder of the time" (had to leave a VM)
2pm arrive without a sniff of the renegade rectum contractor, call my manager and explain the situation "off the record" as I don’t want to get him in trouble if he’s had an accident.
2:20pm Manager calls to inform me that he can’t get hold of w
k sock mcf
knuts the contractor either, but will give him till 3 to make contact with planet f
king considerate.
3pm silently passes like my old granddads farts.
3:03 I get a call from reception asking if the
ractor is coming back as they still have his security pass on reception "from when he went to lunch".......Then I get the light bulb over my head and that sinking feeling, that s
t eating
linking cock custard swallowing time wasting t
t has decided that the role isn’t for him, and left without so much as "The jobs s
t, you’re a
and I am off".
So that’s 1 days work getting him cleared and sorted to work on said site, a mornings "training" wasted, and 3 hours wondering if he’s in a ditch somewhere wishing he'd taken the 1'o'cock lunch slot, not to mention I am now stuck doing the work he should have done and am getting an ear bashing for the users I should have seen.
Ah well lesson learnt "beggars can be choosers"
Thank you for listening I have been your piss boiling pot for the afternoon

You said they came through an agency - did the agency have any clue where he went?
Would seem not, as they didn't really now what to say.Its not just me, but to f

Was he actually competent or had he over-stated his ability?
Only reason I can see for that behaviour would be that he realised that he was waaaay out of his depth.
In his own words " I am used to being dropped in at the deep end and like the challenge". I never actually had time to see if he could do any work without me holding his hand.Only reason I can see for that behaviour would be that he realised that he was waaaay out of his depth.
New development is that he is going to be back this morning, not sure how this has come around, not sure what excuse he has made, but as its nearly 11 I am also not holding my breath. However you can bet if he does come back he's sure a bulls f
ks cows eating his lunch at his desk where I can see him for the next few days.
Not really sure what to say to him when he comes in either, as in 13 years I have never been in this situation before

Why on earth would you want him back after yesterdays performance ?
Surely there are more competent & reliable people out there who'd give their right arm for a job
If it was up to me he'd be out on his arse, but as its not, some manager some where as decided that this is the best course of action.Surely there are more competent & reliable people out there who'd give their right arm for a job
11:30 and his still not here, day 2 seems to be going the same way as day one

The point of a contractor is to bring in someone with the correct skillset for a limited period of time. If he's not got the correct skillset then your company has an interview process problem. Any new employee or contractor is going to need some orientation to the particular setup of a company, but I have come across a few permies in my time that have the notion that I'm some sort of lackey of theirs. I don't allow that to last long.
Having said all that - walking off site as he did is inexcusable, or at the very least, a glorious opportunity missed.

) We use two companies to provide our contractors, we give them a list of the requirements, they send us who they think is best suited to do the job on their books, perhaps not the best process but this is how is done for contracts less than 4 weeks.
By holding his hand, I mean showing him how things work in our company, not looking over his shoulder at everything he does. I had 2 days scheduled to show him the ropes as it were, 3 hours in he asked if he could go to lunch, and didn’t come back. If it was somehow my fault I would have expected him to inform his parent company and it to filter back down to me, for me to amend my ways. As it turns out he has since told one manager that the roles was not what he wanted to do (not sure what he expected as the details of the role are pretty accurate), his parent company that he was feeling unwell and left me a VM stating he was going home (possible that he may have done and that o2 have somehow "misplaced it"), and another manager that the distance was too far to travel, claiming Birmingham to Leatherhead was over 200 miles for him.
Either way he's still not here and again no one can get hold of him to find out what’s going on. As such we have asked for someone else and have put him on a "do not use" list which is nice
