Jobs working from home
Discussion
Has anyone some suggestions on careers I can look into about this, I am suffering with my health / legs and think I should really look into bring prepared for this eventuality. If I start planning now it will give me time to train/ qualify.
I currently work in insurance and I am office based, but mobility is causing problems.
Any help is appreciated.

Technology - available to make it easy, for example Broadband, Web based conference facilities etc.
Globalisation - Many people work with others in different timezones as opposed to the person sitting next to their desk.

How are you with foreign languages? Translation is an ideal career for somebody with mobility problems.
I know someone who is fluent in Finnish and is a translator and travels all over the world while working from his laptop, and whilst not loaded he makes a very comfortable living.CHIEF said:

The good thing about translation is that once you're established - if you're established in a less common language combination - you can pick and choose what work you do. You can work as much or as little as you like. If I hadn't had a family before going into translation, I'd probably be doing what your friend does. I've often said I'm going to go and live in Barbados.

What does your job involve? If you're basically sitting at a computer / terminal all day then that would be feasible at home. Perhaps it's a lower level, but I seem to recall reading that a lot of AA staff are home based.Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
