Hi
I have just completed a National Diploma in Motorsport Engineering at Wiltshire College, predicted grades DDD. I have had a couple of years experience with teams.
I am based in Swindon and have my own transport.
I am looking at getting a job as a Motorsport mechanic or engineer.
I was wondering if anybody was hiring. Or anybody got any teams I could try.
I have a CV on request.

I think most companies would be looking for degrees to be honest mate.
Failing that, knock up a cv and pass it to as many motorsport companies as you can think of and try and get some work experience.
They will also be looking for basic grammar, like the ability to use question marks.Failing that, knock up a cv and pass it to as many motorsport companies as you can think of and try and get some work experience.
Have you tried what has been suggested?
Seriously a national diploma in motorsport is not going to get the F1 teams knocking at your door. Believe me I've done it.
Motorsport is very much a who you know industry. For everyone one that works in the racing team there are several thousands of other people that didn't get there.
If its seriously what you want to be doing you need to get yourself out there as much as you can doing anything and everything even if its unpaid.
As I said before though a National Diploma won't hold up much compared to the qualifications most morosport engineers hold.

Try some of the smaller teams from lower formulas/ race series who are more likely to take on a newbie.
Find out where formula ford or equal race series is taking place near you soon and get the names and addresses for who to send a CV to even if it is just the email address or name of the company off the side of the truck. You will be able to find out about most teams with a quick google. The trip round the paddock would also let you see each teams setups helping you decide who to send a CV to as well.

Read the back of Autospite every week.
Search the net.
If F1 is where you want to end up I would also suggest you try banging on the doors of the F3 teams, if not FReggie. I'm not sure how FPA/F2 is looked at in the industry from that side of things but it's another place worth trying.
Many get their foot in by turning up to clean wheels for ex's if they are lucky then a few meetings in, if they are doing and saying the right things, get asked to do a few more jobs.

I have been looking round on websites such as Autosport, motorsport ads and race cars direct looking for jobs and applied for everything I can.
Also been emailing local teams, but there aint mainy round my area.
When I have been at race meetings, I have been asking larger teams for advice and job oppertunitus.
I was working at Castle Combe recently and spoke to some britcar teams and they had no opertunities and they said have I contacted so and so. Which I have done, but all I do is lead to a dead end.

And don't take this the wrong way, but learn to use grammar correctly and spell. It's "opportunities".
If you don't use a spellchecker then you will NOT GET A JOB.
You need to knock on doors if you're young and inexperienced. Letters and e-mails can/will be binned along with the other thousands of applicants.
Start small with weekend race teams. Offer to spanner and/or help spanner for free at the weekends.
Meantime, try and secure regular mechanic work in the week.
Once you've done this for a while, use your contacts from it to try and get into the paddock for bigger race meets. Then do the same - offer to work for free at weekends. And so on.
This may lead to paid work eventually.
If you're fresh out of college and are looking for a big race team to interview you, take you on and train you up I think you're going to be disappointed.

I agree with the last two but not so sure about the handwritten letter. OK, I'm in IT, but I'd think it weird if I was getting handwritten stuff, maybe in the older professions like law it's a good move, but in anything techie like IT or engineering it sends a message that you aren't up to date, don't even have a pc/printer.And don't take this the wrong way, but learn to use grammar correctly and spell.
