Too old for an apprenticeship?

I know this is rather random but I'm 23yo with a degree in forensic science and all I ever wanted was to join the police, I have been applying and how the budgets have been cut applications are even fewer and farther between, I'm also talking to the armed forces about going in as some kind of forces police, not really fussed which one.

Recently I have been wondering if it may be worth doing an apprenticeship, I know I'm a bit old and I'll earn less than I do now but I figured since I'm restoring a car at the moment and already have another project lined up it will give me the skills needed to enjoy my hobby. By the time it's finished I will either be able to re apply to the police or have more job options available.

Would this be possible at my age? I'd be looking for either London area of Hartlepool as I live in hpool but my gf is going to be a doing a masters in Ldon and hopes to move there, personally I have no love for the city but I assume it would be easier to get one there so I figured I'd ask.

My mate got a plumbing apprenticeship when he was 26 so I suppose its never too late.
Some companies prefer a more mature apprentice as they will be more interested in learning, unlike some of the boys/girls just out of school.
I would send a CV to various companies and try to use your age to an advantage.

One of my mates got a sparky apprenticeship at 31, so it's not too late. I would have thought that proving you're eager and willing to learn will outweigh your age?

To be honest, I think that a company offering an apprenticeship would question your motivation for applying. Why would a company want to spend loads of money training you only for you to leave in a few years to join the police? Surely the idea of an apprenticeship is that a company trains you so that you can work for them when you have completed your training? That way it is benificial for you as you gain a skill/profession, and they get someone trained from the ground up who knows the work inside out.

yep, you can do apprenticeships until 25 so get your skates on! However, the issue is 19+ is part funded by the govt and the rest of the course is funded by the employer (45% iirc) so you have to find an employer to stump up the £1.5k(ish). The govt targets also favour the 16-18 as so many school leavers are unemployed.
