Am i right in thinking that there are no requirements for health and safety if you are a sole trader/self employed and work on your own in a workspace?

Thanks in advance for any input thumbup

Their is no requirment for a written Health and Safety policy if you have less than 5 members of staff.

As said above.

But if you undertake work for others on their site, they may ask for details of your H&S arrangements etc and if thats the case it maybe a H&S policy would be easier to put together.

And what if you have your clients/customers visiting you at your place of business?

You still have to have things in place.

Say for example you have a small joinery unit. In theory there shouldnt be any difference but if your work if likely to affect others you would need to have arrangements in place and how and who deals with H&S (i.e. display the HASAW poster) and maybe restrict access.
