I'm trying to work out which way to jump on this one. I'm coming to the end of my consultation period and need to decide. Should I take redundancy I will have approx 6 months wages but my biggest worry is I will not find another job in this time. Going down the redeployment route is unattractive as the immediate role available is a step down from my current one, I also know this department will cease to exist by 2012. The advantage of going to this role is I can use the 90 day trial period to find a job and still take the redundancy money.

Typing that out is bringing me to the conclusion of redeploying. Another part of me is thinking the media is exaggerating the job situation and I should just go for it. Is it as bad as they make out?

Anyone taken redundancy and regretted it?

The job market varies locally and by industry. What do you do? How senior are you? How good would the payout be? If you do a search for jobs local to you how many come up? Being honest how many do you match the job spec for perfectly, I mean perfectly not too over qualified, too under qualified?
