Could you please give me pointers / ideas for my CV. The current version doesn't seem to be getting me far.

First thoughts:

Why is it so much easier doing this for someone else's CV rather than your own?

• It runs to 4 pages - way too long. Shouldn't be any more than 2 pages. Recruiters have a lot of CVs to look through so get to the point quickly or you've lost them.
• Use bullet points not narrative sentences. Your CV should be a statement of your achievements not the story of your career.
• Personal statement is too long and waffly. Make it a snapshot of all the key things you have done or capabilities you can bring to a new employer.
• Should be 'Personal Details' not 'Personnel Details'
• Jobs first, then Education. Keep the education section brief, ie degree name, result, university, dates - employers don't want a blow-by-blow re-telling of all your lectures at uni
• Far too much irrelevant detail in the job descriptions. Again, it should be not so much about every little thing you did but what it achieved.
• Quantify things (ie, how much you saved by doing x or how big a budget you were responsible for on project y etc)
• For everything you put in the CV ask yourself "is this relevant, or does it matter to a new employer"?

Thanks, these seem like obvious issues, yet when your looking at your own CV you never seem to spot them.
