Help me chose a new career
Discussion
I'm probably going to lose my job at some point due to budget cuts. So have been thinking about re-training in another occupation. Luckily I have no wife or kids to support, my mortgage is about £350/month + bills etc.
I've been thinking about what jobs I'd like to do but I just can't seem to think of anything that meets my critera.
My criteria:
Must be well paid, or if not - the ability to go self employed and then be well paid.
Good salary (£40k+) to be obtainable within 2-5 years.
In demand, sounds obvious right? - are there any of these jobs available? if not i'd be better off with my chances in my current job.
Training - available within relativley easy routes (intensive courses) and not long term. I already have a foundation degree in civil eng so any training would have to be specifically job focused, no uni courses, i dont have the time, effort, funding or patience to do a degree in xxx, only to land a junior position after 3 years.
Job satisfaction, I dont have to love the job, but it's nice to be thanked for your work.
lone working, not too much - it's depressing.
Any sugguestions?
Thanks

I meant for him to go and see? Or are they just useless non jobbers... Never seen one.
Sorry, I was just being silly. It depends. A careers person in a job centre could let you do one of those questionnaires that they have a computer analyse to cough up the most suitable jobs. There may be similar options online anyway.A career job that is easy to get into and pays that highly early on is either going to have to be something you can port most of your skills and experience into otherwise it would be vastly oversubscribed. IIRC banks used to happily employ engineers as the numeracy and problem solving skills meant they made good employees but I suspect the economic climate may have altered the availability of those sorts of jobs.
