My girlfriend has just got a job through a recruitment agency and we would like to know what the agency would have charged the client, just interested thats all.

She's working directly for the company, so we are guessing thaat they only charged a finders fee to the client and she's only on 27k, so I imagine it won't be a huge fee but a quck search on the net has turned nothing up. I wonder if anyone who works in recruitment would know a ballpark figure?

When I made similar enquiries to this before I was told that generally it is 5 to 7%, assuming you are in the UK. But it does vary, they will charge as much as they can get away with.

For a finders fee would be easily 15 to 20% at that level. (of salary)

In a similar situation a year ago starting on a virtually identical salary I cost the company employing me £3000.

Thanks this has been very interesting. Her new boss has offered her an interesting option. She knows she's been hired but the agency don't yet.

The new boss intends to say she was unsucessful.

Her boss has offered her 1k to go along with it, based on what you've told me I think she should push for 1.5k

The agency did their job and she has a responsibility to them first and foremost.

Probably easier to psot a photo of her on holiday though before any advise is given.

And when the agency find out, take the boss to court she will have a new job title "the co-accused".

Would she really want to work for a firm like this?

I don't know, I think they take a novel approach to profit sharing. laugh

Personally I'd tell them that if they are going to do that she doesn't want the job. It's a no win situation doing anything else, it could be a trap to see what sort of person she is or if it isn't she's helping them break their agreement with the agency.

Agencies take a very dim view of this.

There is a pher who runs a recruitment agency and i'm sure will be along shortly to comment on this as I believe he had a similiar instance recently.

I hope so, thankfully I don't need to use agencies, according to my girl her experience of recruitment agencies are that they are essentially staffed by gobby, loud-mouthed people and if it's not an obese person, it's a extroverted, ego-maniac, talks without listening, puts on a silly style of voice, usually wears a BHS outfit and is eating something from Gregg’s whilst talking to you.

Well I'm please you find it funny, personally I wouldn't like it if someone contracted to pay me for a service and then lied to avoid paying me once I'd delivered on my side of the agreement.

Presumably you don't mind people screwing you out of money, no doubt you just find it funny then as well.

That would make me think long and hard about working there.

Couple of things to consider if they do pay her 1k, she will be liable for tax and ni on it, if they do it cash in hand I'd be very concerned.

The more important point is that how would you feel if you had worked for a month then just before payday your boss decided to tell you you were fired and weren't going to be paid, and in fact he was giving 50% of your pay to someone he met in a pub ?.

Recruitment is just like any other job, there are good and bad.

Kudos

As much as I hate the bds, they did do what they were hired to do, so company should pony up.

Awkward situation to put your girlfriend in

That was myself.

We had it happen to us about 6 months ago, instead of the 8% we agreed with the client, we invoiced them at the full 20%. After an FDL they paid.

It really pisses me off with posts like this, if you can't afford to use an agency, don't. I can assure you the agency will find out and will invoice her new untrustworthy scum employer a damn site more than the original invoice would have been. Just to add, if the employer is trying to do this, how many other unlawful activities does he get into with his business? Certainly not a place I'd want to work.

Quite frankly if your missis goes ahead with this she deserves everything that she gets.
