Does anyone actually find a job by posting up their CV on these job websites?

My current contract ends in 2 months and with the current economic climate I haven't even found anything I can apply for, let alone get to interview! I'm now getting desperate and have posted by CV on one of those sites, but do they do what they say on the tin?

We get 75% of our CV's (agency) from job boards.

You will get success from it.

Yes

You have your 'All-Round' websites, such as monster which cover most sectors.
You then have your 'Specialty' websites which will cover one, or primarily cover a specific sector whilst advertising for other areas.

I have no affiliations with them, but I have obtained pretty much all (on par to 95%) of my contracts through jobserve.co.uk

Create a quick account, upload your CV and do a search.
If you like the job, merely click on apply.

8 times out of 10 the agency will call you back, if not - you call them. The entire job/ agency details are emailed to you once you click on apply, so you've got a good record of what you're doing.

If you're in the wondrous world of it, have a play with jobserve and cwjobs.

Genuine question!

I opened up a linkedin account about 2 years ago, and after spending the best of an hour trying to fathom out how I'd managed to gather 168,000 members in "my network," I found no use for it.

Couple of ex-managers on there, along with agencies and their agents.

Plus friends/ colleagues were being spammed to hell from my linkedin account asking them to join.

I dismissed it, and deleted my account.

I put up my profile etc and was approached by a company to do a similar role to my current, fast forward five weeks and three interviews I get the job.

Obviously the industry you work in is key to whether the above is likely, but I'm glad made a profile!

I think my industry will not be as prominent. There seems to be a lot of IT and communications etc but not much clinical research or midwifery!
