Has anyone had any experience in the application process for an entry level position within Bloomberg?

I believe there is the usual telephone interview, face to face interview, shadowing etc..

Just wondered if anyone is able to expand on this and if I could get an idea of the usual starting salary to expect.

Dont think it pays great at first...

Do know the days crude price etc on the phone interview.

exactly this: 15 days per year holiday ONLY. You think you are getting paid above market rate but really you are just condemning yourself to overlong hours. Therefore it can be quite hard getting any holiday round Christmas (when I worked there, only two people out of a department of 20 were allowed to be on holiday at any one time).

I found the job interview fairly standard procedure. Was put forward by a recruitment consultant, so no phone interview, the first interview was face-to-face with my manager to be, second was more like a group affair with other candidates (to see how we interacted) and also more Q&A with a couple of other people from HR present.
Bear in mind almost all new intake comes through the customer support switchboard before being
shifted towards technical support/sales/analytics it means you will have to do AT LEAST a year working in a call centre environment in order to progress. Sometimes if you are hired with a different position in mind they might cut this down to a few months but expect to have to spend a fair amount of time as a phone monkey.

I first started working there when Mike Bloomberg was still boss - after he stopped running the company to become mayor of NYC I found the atmosphere changed and it became a lot more staid, when I first joined it seemed really youthful and dynamic, they gave you free breakfast and lunch and all was generally rosy.

Is it? fair enough, I left in 2003. 15 days holiday was a joke, especially considering booking more than two days off in a row was practically impossible.
Lot of hot ladies in the office, though, and if you're into tropical fish, they office had a few millions worth of reef tanks all over the place. The fish had a better life than most of the employees, heheh

Yeah, apparently they bumped it up to 20 a few years back then up to 25 about 2 years ago. I have to say that the holiday would have been a deal-breaker for me if it had still been 15 when I was offered a job.

It seems the adherence to 8-6 and the booking of holidays depends what department you're in - mine is reasonably relaxed about timekeeping and our manager lets us get on with it.

The fish tanks are great, there's a massive one at the top of the escalators into the kitchen now which has a meeting room the other side of it.

yeah unfortunately I had to work evil shift patterns - 6-3pm one week, 11am-8pm the next and so on. Totally ruined my body clock. Actually I really liked working there for half the time I was there, but the atmosphere soured when I came back from holiday to find my manager had been replaced by some amateur who took an instant dislike to me and anyone else who had enjoyed a good relationship with her predecessor), it went from being a pretty sweet job to employment hell pretty swiftly.
