Anyone in rope access?

Thinking of doing a IRATA Level 1 training course.
I'm a self employed tree surgeon subbing to other companies as a climber but things are deader then a dead thing for the last month or so. Would like to add another string to the bow so to speak and want to know what sort of oppurtunities and money are out there.

I did my level 1 many years ago and did some subbing for a company called Up & Under, because most RA people are outdoorsy types they're usually quite amienable and up for a natter so you could just try calling a few for advice.
There also used to be quite a decent online job bulletin board and a lot of windfarm projects are using RA people so that's another avenue to explore...

I've been thinking about getting into rope access work as I work at height already and as I'm likely to be made redundant in the next few months I need to find something else to do. My only worry is that I haven't really got any other skills which I could use in an RA role so I would also need training in something else.
NDT seems like an interesting route but it seems that whilst the training is straightforward enough experience is also needed which leads to the old chestnut of no experience no job, no job no experience.
Any advice as to how to go about things would be much appreciated. The article linked above seems to suggest there is work for people with just rope access skills and extra training can then be done futher along the line.

I worked as a saleman in powered access market(lorry mount,under bridge inspection machines cherry pickers)and you may wish to go on the following site which covers opportunities for people new to rope access.Couple of companies in the Nort East specialise in rope access courses and will put you touch with the people who can find you work on the rigs etc.Just click on the rope access section and theres an article all about getting work.good luck
