How does company car tax work?
Discussion
I understand that this sounds like a massive noob question....
I'm trying to deicde whether to have a company car with the new job I may be getting.
There is a 2k pay difference between having a car and not (less if you have a car)
I am told that i am taxed on the car I have, and that different cars have different rates....
I have to have a Renault. Is it basically down to how much the car costs?
Sorry for the retard questions. I'm just weighing up having something half decent (like a Laguna Coupe Monaco) or something filthy cheap (Clio DCi)
Cheers

your tax code is changed so effectively you pay more income tax. a cheapo clio should cost someone earning less than 44k ish about £50 per month in company car tax
a laguna monaco maybe (off the top of my head) £150 per month.
but, you get a free car, free insurance, free servicing, free tyres etc so a company car is still a very good perk
