English speaking jobs in France.

My first post so I hope this is in the correct section.

I am 22 and have some cash saved up to go and work abroad somewhere. Not really that interested in Australia, etc but I love France, lost count of the amount of times I have been so would love to work out there for a year or so and learn French to a high standard at the same time.

My question is are there any English speaking jobs that I could possibly do out there? I only know the very basics of the language but I have always wanted to learn French and I will learn best if I am over there for a long period of time.

The only jobs that have come to mind are working in Irish bars?

Any advice would most appreciated.

Definitely do it! I regret not spending more time in France when my parents retired over there. Maximum I spent was 4 months in a row, and whilst this was fairly rural, I met and interacted with a lot of the locals and my conversational French surprises me still. I never even though it was going in until I was sat having a conversation about politics over a demi in the local bar.

Work-wise, avoid somewhere too rural. Depending on what you like, the big cities each have something different to offer. Lyon is a big teaching centre, maybe speak to the uni and colleges and discuss English tutoring.

I was thinking Nice, Cannes, etc, that sort of area. Thats my preference but I will go wherever is affordable and has the best opportunities. I imagine living cost are pretty expensive, even for the dump I am likely to be living in.

Many people have said about English tutoring so I will def look into that.

I have friends in Antibes (which is between the two, as you probably know), I will ask them. They may know best (read cheap) places to stay. Can't guarantee that bit though, as neither of them need to work (if you catch my drift).

Yep I know Antibes, stayed there last year. Any advice would be great. I'm finding that finding info on anything other than holiday rentels is proving to be quite a challenge so knowing what areas to focus on would be great. Thanks.

I believe the Monte-Carlo Casinos are crying out for young englishmen, preferably with no french language skills at all, to work in their casinos hosting rich clients. They normally give you a free property to live in on the Côte-d’Azur as well. Just call them any time, they normally can't find anyone to fill the positions.

As already mentioned, try eurocamp, canvas holidays etc.

The family holiday sites pay fairly well for what you'd be doing, offer accomodation and food, and if you want you can take the opportunity to learn French although I doubt most of them bother.

I moved to France several years ago and stayed for two years playing pro sport, it really helps to have a good level of French before you go as otherwise you could feel isolated. Try some of the Open University basic French courses if you have the desire to improve, they'll prepare you for learning more

Is there actually chance of work for a inexperienced uni grad with this? I've heard there are big queues at any agency down there and competition is rife except its against more experienced deck hands.
If I were to head down there, what would be the chances of actually getting work?

fill your boots. this is an ex pat radio station on the riviera. they often advertise jobs on here. some are very last minute so get your toothbrush and passport ready, then sit and listen ready to make a call. as an added bonus you get to listen to some awesome mainstream music for hours on end.
