Passed all interviews with company, but taking at least a mo
Discussion
Hi,
Passed all interviews with company, but taking at least a month to get an offer
I went for a three interviews with the same company and was told that I passed all the interviews and the feedback was very positive. However, the company has said that it is seeking approval for making an offer so the position is "on hold".
Meanwhile, I am interviewing at other places and it can be very quick till I am made an offer from elsewhere.
What would be the best way to handle this situation?
Thanks

In the current job market positions/open headcount are often being put on hold, esp in larger companies. As has been said, don't turn down another offer in favour of this position. After all, you can accept another job and give notice on that if you get a better offer (not nice, but companies play us employees all the time).
Or it is a situation where there may or may not be a job, take the job that gives you a concrete offer as you could start then find the delay was because they where unsure of work. You don't wwant to start somewhere and find they go bust or lose a big customer and you are out of work.

We do this all the time. Thought it was a) commonplace and b) obvious to the candidate. Last thing I'd want to do is tell the no candidates to bugger off then the yes candidate doesn't take it. Then be left looking a mug or starting the ballache of recruiting again. I have to deal with this (from the company side of things) regularly. We're a global multi-national, major player in the O&G industry; one minute we'll have the green light for interviewing and offering, then the next minute the regional VP has discovered the figures aren't looking so good for this quarter so the knee-jerk reaction is to cap all expenditure ASAP. First port of call is always recruitment in a bid to stop headcount from increasing, regardless of business requirements. Then the regional VP will ask to be the final approver on all actions for his area of responsibility; that's hundreds of actions a week on everything including approving someone's individual offer and agreeing to their start date - that's where the delay comes from. One man having the final say on everything when he looks after 5000+ individuals.
The worst thing is we get no warning of when this is going to happen, so we say to someone we're going to make them an offer in the interview, get back to my desk to find that we can no longer make offers and we have to go back to the candidate and look like a right knob saying "sorry, we can't do anything just yet".
So just for the record, the excuse that the company have given you is very probable. However like others have said above, I know that if I was in the OP's position and unless you desperately want a job with that company, I'd take the first concrete offer that someone else offers.
You can probably tell I get wound up by this sometimes...

t it takes them a month to approve someone's employment. If they really are that bad then I'd be having second thoughts about working there anyway.
