So, what would you make of your HR department adding you as a contact in Linked-In?
Are they just being nosey at who I know, or is there a legitimate reason anyone can think of.

Do you mean they have set you up or requested to add you as a contact? I assume the later, in which case can't you just ignore the request? Or maybe there is a nice girl in HR that is checking you out....

..In our company it can be quite amusing...when a top sales guy connects to 3 head hunters in a week, he gets a phonecall from his boss asking how is, if everything is ok LOL

HR on Linked In, isn't that what it is for? To allow you to keep business contacts separate from "personal" I'd say no problem having HR as a contact on Linked In i'd be more worried about HR and Facebook after all mates can always embarrass you.

Which is worse - adding in first place or adding and subsequently ignore/block when looking for a new role? Think about it

So it's not the "HR Department" who have asked to connect to you, it's the dippy girl who works in HR?

Add her, unless your profile is private she can probably view most of it anyway, is there anything on there you wouldn't discuss with a colleague or have you overinflated your skills and she can rumble you?

PS: I noticed a Pistonheads group on there too, would it be a positive thing to join and be associated with you lot?

In my industry pretty well everyone seems to be on there so it's good for keeping track of what people are up to. But more and more people hide their contacts which is becoming annoying.

If you're concerned, then maybe LI is not for you. Once you join, you have effectively offered yourself up, the genie is out of the can one might say, so no going back!

You can make your list of contacts private and can also delete your history, including the people who you have connected with.

You can't hide shared connections.

Not sure what you mean by activity history?

Eg Nick is now connected to Bob Smith

There is an option to delete this information, and there may also be an option in privacy settings (or similar) to stop it displaying in the first place.
