Short term vs long term training

I have a training dilemma that I am hoping that you could possibly help me with.
As the title suggests I am torn between gaining a qualification that will benefit me in the short term and gaining one which will have longer term benfits. The short term option is to do the SDI Service Desk Manager course with the long term option being an MBA through either the OU or RDI (University of Wales course).
My current role is a Helpdesk Team Leader for a management consultancy firm. The SDI qualification will help me in this role but the MBA would give me the option to move into a consulting role in the future. The company are willing to find either as they can see a business case for both.
What would you do in my position? I'd be happy to do either, which isn't really helping!

MBA. I assume you have the desire, drive, family support, self-discipline and intelligence to do it? Sorry, but no point in kidding yourself if you haven't! Do you have a first degree or other Masters and have you got a limit on funding as not all MBAs are the same cost or quality. Good luck!
I have the drive, desire, support and, I hope, intelligence. The only real constraint is that work would want me to go down the distance learning route.
I don't have a degree (a decision I am now regretting as I get older) so would have to start with the professional certificate and work up from there.
Hopefully cost isn't going to be too much of an issue as work have limited the options by demanding online learning, however I think I will be asked to sign a contract to agree to stay with the company for a set period.

You are in exactly the same position as my other half, same job, same options etc.
She took the OU MBA, and switched departments to escape IT once she graduated.
I think it took her 5 or 6 years in total with a a fair bit of time off in the middle due to a couple of projects at work.
She did switch it part way through from an IT focussed MBA over to a general one.

Out of interest what was the workload like, the OU reckons 8-10 hours per week but I would imagine its more than that in reality.
I think she spent more on it, especially coming up to assignments and exams.
I used to clear off down to London with the kids each Sunday so she could get some peace at home.
The OU were very flexible with extensions to deadlines for things though which helped her no end.
