Thought Id ask for some advice on here about the situation I'm in..
Im 21 years old and studied ICT for 2 years at college then started to look for full time work. (bad idea when looking back) Having a few jobs in retail as a stopping gap and been made redundant from a decent office job in 2008 I finally found myself a job in advertising.
The role is in production and is a basic salary at 12k PA. Not to sound big headed or anything but right from the start the job seemed too easy and most of the time I found myself doing nothing.
After taking this up with my director I was basically told 'your position is deadend and theres no possible way to move up in our company' Having not been told this at interview I was obviously quite ticked off.
After this (Summer last year) I started to look for other work or show my current employer I could handle way more than I was given. This wasn't noticed at all.
Workload gradually got so low that now I basically do about an hours work in an 8 hour day and job motivation is an all time low. After speaking again with my director I was told I would be able to work in other departments and things looked promising. This was ok for a couple of weeks as I was generally busier but now its just back to square one again.
Its obvious they want me in that position forever and I even overheard one the managers say that. So I'm basically stuck at the moment not knowing what to do? The job market for Admin/Production based work which I have experience in is non exsistant round here and requires specific criteria.
Other options are Uni but I cant afford to give up full time work for it and with fee's rising Il be worse off.
Im looking this week to arrange to go and see our councils career advice service for help.

Isn't 12k per annum is close to the minimum wage? I am not sure what exact job you do but advertising/printing is very tough with the advent of the Internet and cheap competition from abroad. You options include biding your time and staring your own business on the side with the aim of leaving the 12k job at some point, or I would hope there are >12k per annum entry level jobs in IT out there if you want a change..
