How do you get back to work after a long break??

Hi all, my missus would like to get back to work but only part time employment.
Because she hasn't worked for a while, she doesn't really know how or what to do?
Also as she has lost all confidence n belief that she's even employable :-(
Its made harder still as she hasn't really got a preference, although she is pretty sure she doesn't want to stay at her new job as a cleaner, lol!!!!
She has looked into re training in payroll but its over £1000, which seems a big out lay if at the end of it you cant find the job you have just trained for :-(.
She has applied for various supermarket jobs but isn't even getting rejection letters.
All n most other jobs out there say you must have previous experience!!!!
Does anyone know of any subsidized back to work packages or something similar.
Or any good job sites?
Any help greatly appreciated.

when I was on JSA I noticed that the government had plugged in over £500 million into job centers in the form of training courses that are free to any looking for a job or on JSA...
They have a list of pre defined courses or if you can prove that you need a specific course for your job that they dont supply (in my case FSA regs course to requalify) then they will pay for it.

Originally she worked in an office doing credit control, moving onto doing payroll & has worked in payroll at 3 following jobs, the last of which was 16yrs ago.
She has a level 3 diploma in child care & is also a qualified Ballroom dance teacher (but has taught Ballroom, Latin American & Sequence).
Now this is gonna sound to fussy but she dont wanna work evenings & wouldn't consider waitressing or bar work as fun (she's a practising recluse, lol).
Will pass on all your suggestions,
