Getting work in India...
Discussion
In order to redress the many years of assymetric immigration, I'm looking into the possibility of moving to India with my missus.
Just wondering how practical this would be? And if anyone has done this before?
The missus will be done via her work, but I would be going solo so to speak and have to find work/visa etc when I get there...
So basically what I'm asking is, how difficult would this be to do, and what are the chances of finding work with the local finance/IT firms?
Thanks in advance...

No idea how you'd go about looking for IT work in India, but for reference I believe we pay our offshore resources < $50/day. Can you live on that?
i was talking to an IT chap a few days ago , he says they pay up to £200 a day for some people in india.also the call centre thing is not totally out of the question. maybe training people might be an avenue to explore

Thanks for the helpful replies.
Currently working in the design/implementation of ultra low latency trading environments, primarily with 29 West messaging (Informatica) in prime services, but also deal with FIX etc. (Actually have may move to a FIX team).
I wasn't sure there are that many investment banks located in Dehli.
Not sure training is for me tbh, as there's a niche market for my skills.
Thanks again

Is it Delhi you are looking to be located in? You will suffer in your job search if you focus there, Mumbai is where businesses are based in the majority.Currently working in the design/implementation of ultra low latency trading environments, primarily with 29 West messaging (Informatica) in prime services, but also deal with FIX etc. (Actually have may move to a FIX team).

Have you looked at contracting via IBs with operations in India?

My experience of working over 30 years overseas is that if you apply for a job 'in country' they will try to pay you as a local. Get a job before you go. I would also check if you can apply for awork visa when you are in country on a tourist visa, many places don't allow it.
Last time I had an Indian multiple entry work visa, it was valid for 183 days and then I was required to be out of the country for 14 days whilst a new visa was granted.I happily complied, as the taxation in India was ludicrous then (2005/2006) and is even worse now I believe.
I worked in Delhi for several years. There are a reasonable number of Western companies based in Gurgaon, out near the airport. Most finance related jobs will be in Bombay. Indian wage inflation has been rampant in recent years and with he right skills even accpeting a job on "indian" wages, you may be surprised at what you get. I'm assuing money will not be the main motivator here as it seems you are moving with your OH's job.

I'm not sure if he's fluent in English (or even Hindi or Urdu) but he's certainly fluent in "jargonese". He'll impress at the interview.
I doubt it, its been a while... No to the Hindi or Urdu, English only unfortuantely. In plain terms I design and implement system infrastructures to get quotes/prices orders/trades between trading entities/ markets as quickly as possible, utilising bespoke (well financial arena) messaging protocols, and to a degree, specialised infrastructure or co-location.
And yes wages aren't too pressing, as the move is centred around a very good position for Mrs Brother D based in Delhi. But I don't want to move out of my current specialist field...
But thanks again for the input guys.
