Royal Wedding Bank Holiday - day in lieu? Or nothing at all?

Not sure if anyone has brought this up before on here but my current place of work isn't having the 29th off as a bank holiday and isn't giving us anything else in lieu either. I don't know what the legal requirements are regarding companies and bank holidays - do they have to honour them in some form (e.g. day in lieu) or is it just a case of being the done thing and there isn't actually any binding requirement?

I'm not really that bothered although an extra day off in the sun to work on the car would be nice. The people its really annoyed is the shop floor but they typically go about things backwards grumble about things to themselves until it reaches boiling point and don't express their feelings to management, who are about as emotive and empathic as an Audi A4 TDI tailgating with lights on full beam.

Last thing like this ended up in carry-on style strike action. If there is no legal requirement then its easy to agree with management and that's the end of that. If there is a legal requirement of some sort then I'd side with shopfloor and probably advise management that they really should look at the small print.

Same with the company I work for.
Its to do with how the contract is worded regarding bank holidays. Some list them, some just say bank holidays I believe.

Ah right. Ours lists them in the employee policy handbook. Bit sneaky as it means any 'new' bank holidays won't be in it.

We have closed for the full week next week

Usually we take 8 of our annual leave days to close for 2 weeks at xmas, this year we only needed 5 days to do it so have allocated 3 into next week giving us a nice 11 day break

I'm the opposite in that I'm a filty scumbag IT contractor and I'm being forced to take it off, so no money.

Couldn't they have got married on a Saturday like most people?

It's a Public Holiday not a Bank Holiday

My mum is working though, double time and a day off in lieu - not bad at all.

Contractor here too but I don't really mind, I could do with a break anyway (taking the middle 3 days off too) and it looks like being sunny

Contractor here as well ... Forced to take a day off unpaid. Don't these people give a st about us or are we just common scum to them ?

we all have it off , but if people want to work and get a day in lieu back they are allowed.
