Big day tomorrow, car is in for first service in my ownership which is the big one. 3rd oil service at 26k on a 57 plate, which means spark plugs, SMG trans fluid, diff oil and all filters etc. Have confirmed estimate at £861 so will see if Wellsway Bath stick to that figure.

Took me phoning 5 dealerships to negotiate that figure so don't automatically accept the price BMW give you, as I know Eddie has receipt for circa £1200 for same service.

Will see how we get on also get 3 series as loan car for a day

That doesnt seem a bad price mate, especially with the 3 series for the day.

Out of curiosity, whats the service intervals on an M5? I'd like to know how often the inspection 1 and 2's come up, and how often

Cheers mate. Hope that price is in concrete for you

The e60 m5 has condition based servicing so depends on how you drive it.

Is this based on fuel consumption?

No, its based on your driving style. Short trips vs long trips, hard driving vs gentle.
I'm sure if it were based on fuel consumption we'd be having it serviced every month.

If it's anything like the M3, then it's dictated by number of litres of fuel used. Think it's something like 2500 litres, which usually gives intervals of between 10k and 15k miles between services.

Why not buy your own genuine service items and oil from the likes of www.bmminiparts.com and then just pay for the dealers labour. It is a much cheaper way to go.

Yes what he said, it's the same as the M3 and is calculated from the amount of fuel used.

All done, would have got the car back yesterday but when they were swapping out the spark plugs one of the ignition coils got stuck and then snapped on removal, but that was all replaced under warranty anyway, and picked the car up at 10 this morning.

Had to pay £15 for their insurance and actually took a new Mini instead of a hideously coloured 318, put £6 fuel back in it on return.

They stuck with the estimate but the Assistant Service Manager did say the price was lower as there was a discount added which shouldn't be used for M cars, but he wasn't difficult at all which I took to believe that you can have this large service much cheaper than the first quote you are given mainly to keep your future business.

Wellsway are my local dealer, but going to email the Service Manager to say how good the guy who dealt with me was (Ben). He has only recently started but after phoning 5 dealerships he was the only person who actually knew what was needed for this service. He is a M car fanatic which helped a lot as he was genuinely interested in talking about the car as well as keeping fully up to date on the new service/warranty updates from BMW head office. Also price was a key factor, the cheapest by far, circa £200, dealership on South Coast wanted £1480 and tried to tell me the spark plugs didn't need changing.

Glad to see the mileage had only increased by 6 miles after their test, and car had mini valet (wash/hoover) and they even polished bonnet to remove the remnants of a major seagull attack.

Def not taking the car anywhere else and will only deal with Ben from now. Should be circa 2 years till next service if driven reasonably.

Said it before, but these cars represent amazing value, with the one proviso on the ridiculous fuel consumption, but you can't have everything.

Good to hear all is well Bobby

So i suppose the i drive will dictate when the next service is due, and the service book tells you what service is next?

If I can bring myself to sell my Skyline i'll look into getting one of these when i get back off holiday

Good to read a positive outcome on here too
