E46 M3 feels terrific again
Discussion
Quick report.
I've just had the following done to my M3:
New Powerflex RTABs
New OEM rear springs
Full valve adjustment (shims replaced and on the invoice).
Oil service
I was slightly apprehensive about getting Powerflex bushes due to very mixed reviews, but I am glad I did as this simple mod, along with replacement springs, has transformed the handling of my car. It is not at all harsh, as I had feared it would be, but tight yet compliant, and significantly, the steering and turn-in are markedly better. It feels much more together and responsive now and a pleasure to drive.
I decided to get my valve clearances checked too as I wasn't satisfied with the punch on offer. It had seemed flatter over the last few months - a recent trip to North Wales (hiking and driving) pretty much confirmed it for me. After a full and proper check, I finally gave it the beans this afternoon and all I can say is wow, it really does pull hard now in all gears and feels more energetic and eager from low-mid rpm. I am well pleased. Anyone getting an Insp 2, make sure this is done and not overlooked, as it makes a difference.
All in all, not cheap but well worth it
