E60 M5 TO F10 M5?
Discussion
Hi!
I'm off to Goodwood at the end of June to see what the F10 looks like in the flesh.
I have loved every generation of M5 and I'm sure this one will be no different.
The thing is though.....it "only" has a V8 turbo!!
My heart says stick with the glorious and never-to-be repeated V10, but my head is beginning to have thoughts of getting an F10.
The E60 M5 is an unbelievably good car, especially when you learn a bit about how to drive it.....it's going to take something very very special to make me want to move on.
Who else is having these thoughts?

Must admit I'm looking forward to it. The low down torque will be a welcome addition. Just look what BMW have done with turbocharging the 1M, no one is denying its an exciting drive. Just imagine that x2. Only thing I can see as a downside at the moment is the weight issue. And the F10 so far isn't a looker in my opinion. I won't be buying one but just may the new M6 convertible in 2012/13, if the gearbox is better than the SMGIII, which won't be difficult!
Sometimes to "make progress" in the V10 it feels like you have to have no mechanical sympathy, I think that will be different in the V8. I wonder how long it will be before we see some monster power remaps?

Hi
I've been lucky enough to see some of the new F10's at SEMA 2010, and some of the bodystyling options from the big, reputable high end tuners. There's also various postings on the web showing pictures of the Alpina and AC Schnitzer variants etc.
Coming out soon as well as products already available from more specialist after market tuner's are F10 styling options which really do enhance the styling quite a bit!
The F10 M5 hasn't been officially announced, just that 'concept' version right now, so I'd expect a few more visual changes - mirrors for one!
Here's some examples of F10's that have already been modified with products

Have a look at the forthcoming products from Vorsteiner

There's a few other bit's I've seen, just waiting to find out more about them and their availability, they're from specialist styling houses in the LA area - hoping to get pictures soon!
As for the engine being only a V8 twin turbo, I have no doubt that when the car is officially released, and the various motoring magazines around the world get a hold of it, it'll provide an epic view of just what BMW M have done with the car/chassis. There's always be the subject of it's now Forced Induction, but the flipside is, how else can BMW compete with the big blown AMG's and Audi's who've been FI for years already and still the M5 was the benchmark car they tried to beat? the manual gearbox being the other grumble factor, and the flipside to that is, no human being can change the cogs fast enough to allow the rest of the engine perform to it's potential..

Cheers, Dennis!
