Now it seems £30K could put you in a decent second hand M3 or M6 has anyone had both and can comment on the more rewarding.

After reading the M6 buying guide in this months Evo, I didn't realise how (relatively) light the M6 is - 1680Kg i think it said - compared to the current M3 that must be pretty similar.

Is the M3 more rewarding to sling about and the M6 quicker at higher speeds?

the m6 is a monster, if you can get on with the looks I'd go for it! expect more expensive servicing but the rarity value alone would do it for me. You will get alot more for your money as well...its essentially a 90k+ M car

i'd go for the M6 probably if you can live with the running costs. the M3's aren't cheap (tyres about £350 per tyre at the rear for instance) and the economy is even worse on the M6. if that's not an issue.... M6.

i suspect the M3 is more rewarding though.

Very difficult to find a concensus on any cars' kerb weight but 3909 lbs / 1777 Kg comes up when you look online. A bit nearer the mark than EVO's figure I think at 80Kg or so less than an M5.

M6's V10 is epic but M3 more agile and very nearly as quick as an M6 sub 100.

M6 is in another league to the M3....

Far rarer and a real good buy at the moment.......think it is likely to be my next car....evem though my 535d is of course far quicker in the 'real world'.......:-)

Bang on, fraid thats what stopped me from looking at one and i went for the E92 instead

Think it depends on what you intend to do with the car?

If i could do it again, i think id actually go for a 335i and save some money in servicing, insurance etc. etc. as in the real world it probably wouldnt be too far away from the M3, granted, the M3 has that V8 engine which i think everyone should try at least once in their lifetime but its very difficult to get the best of it on the road because the power is all at the top of the rev-range (Not sure if its the same with the M6?)

Also you'll never fully be able to appreciate what the M3 can do until you get it on track because if you try it on the road you'll either die or get arrested, if you took the M6 on track i suspect youll burn through brake pads and tyres like no tomorrow

Its your money at the end of the day and whatever car you choose it'll be a stonker

M6 is cheaper to buy but will cost more to run, M3 probably more to buy in the first place but running costs are slightly lower.

Performance and handling is subjective and you'd need to drive both to really decide what you prefer.
