I have a bit of saving up to do so I can't buy immediately.

I was thinking a few weeks post Xmas is a good time to buy.... I should be able to haggle 2.5-3k off a £30k car? Does anyone have any experience in such matters?

It doesn't matter what you negotiate off the price, what matters is what it's worth.

An overpriced car is very easy to chip the price, keenly priced cars often sell at the asking price.

I have the same plan as youbiggrin

I also have £30k to spend on an E92 M3. I will also be buying just after Xmas as I'm working away and don't get back into the UK until 15th Jan so I reckon you and me will be fighting over the same cars!laugh

What "must have" extras are you looking at?? EDC and 19" rims are must have's as far as I'm concerned.

Similar to what I'm after but I'm going to avoid black this time around after owning a new Kuro black Nissan 350Z. It was a nightmare to keep clean. I'm going to try and get Silverstone II.

I paid 25k for my 2007 E92.

Space grey, manual,58k miles
Bluetooth
EDC
heated seats
Logic 7 hifi
folding mirrors
rear blind
CD changer
Refurbed wheels
taxed and MOT'd

Miles are a bit high but the same car (almost, without EDC and 15k less miles) from a BMW dealer was 30k and they would not budge on the price, bar a few hundred quid. So I bought privately.

Space Grey is also excellent for hiding the dirt!

Sold my '57 plate, Melbourne red 22k EDC equipped e92 for just under 30k privately in late feb. Fantastic value and one of the most enjoyable all round cars I've had over the years.

The best time to buy was Q1 2009.....pre-reg delivery mile units were sold at <£40k.

7-11 July BMW AUC event, 2 yrs AUC Warranty...(which is miles better than the extended warranty).

They were doing some 36 month contract hire deals at around the same time - so presumably there will be some cars coming out of that offer in Q1 2012.

I bought one of the pre-registered saloons in April 2009. 16 miles on the clock and cost less than £40K against £57K list smile

Isn't the replacement 3 series coming out later this year and wouldn't it have an effect on prices of all the then 'old model' shaped cars?

Just a thought.

Really envy you on your purchase price. I saw these cars being sold through sytner all at 40k with circa 100-1000 miles on the clock. I bought my m3 saloon in Aug 2010 (car was 20 months old and 13k miles in) and still paid £35k.

In response to the original post, definitely make sure you get the upgraded stereo. The base hifi annoys me every day with it's terrible quality. Bluetooth and USB work seamlessly with my iPhone.

Got mine Dec 2008 for 39k so I'd agree, 2000 miles 8 weeks old, those were the days. Makes the pricing of today seem quite expensive.

From my own experience of buying cars (I'm 37 and have owned over 90 cars!) I always find the best time is the end of November or mid February.
